Pendants
A good pendant does two jobs: it lights the space and it's often the first thing people notice when they walk in. We stock hundreds of pendants from Telbix, Calibo, CLA, MDA, Oriel and Eglo, from a single glass dome beside the bed to long linear pieces over a kitchen island.
Getting the size and height right
- Over a dining tableHang the bottom of the pendant about 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop. A single pendant looks right at roughly half to two thirds the width of the table.
- Over a kitchen islandUse two or three pendants spaced about 60 to 80 cm apart, or one linear pendant around two thirds the length of the bench.
- In walkways and entriesKeep at least 2.1 m clear between the floor and the bottom of the light.
- Check the globeMany pendants take a standard E27 globe, so you choose warm or cool light and can swap it later. Integrated LED models are slimmer, but the light source can't be changed.
Questions we get asked
Can I use a pendant on a low ceiling?
Yes. Choose a compact shade and keep the drop short. With a 2.4 m ceiling, save longer drops for spots over tables, benches or beside the bed where nobody walks underneath.
Should I choose a single pendant or a multi light pendant?
Single pendants grouped in twos or threes give you flexibility over an island. A cluster or chandelier makes more of a statement in a void, stairwell or high dining room. Have a look at our multi light pendants for those spaces.
Can pendant lights be dimmed?
Most can, with a compatible dimmable globe or driver. Each product page tells you whether the fitting is dimmable, and we're happy to check your existing dimmer before you buy.
Shop single pendants or multi light pendants. Send us your room size or a photo and we'll point you in the right direction. Call 02 4040 0599 or email sales@alstra.lighting.
