Wall Lights
Wall lights are the easiest way to make a room feel finished. They add a soft layer of light at eye level, frame a bed or doorway and free up space on your side tables. Choose from up/down lights, glass sconces, swing arm readers and slim LED designs from Telbix, Oriel, CLA, Calibo and Cougar.
Getting the placement right
- Hallways and living roomsMount around 1.6 to 1.8 m from the floor so the light sits just above eye level.
- Beside the bedAbout 1.2 to 1.5 m from the floor works well for reading.
- Up/down lightsThese wash the wall in both directions and look great along a hallway or either side of a TV.
- No wiring?Look for plug-in wall lights, which run from a power point with a switch on the cord.
Questions we get asked
Do wall lights give enough light for a room?
On their own they're usually a mood layer rather than the main light. Pair them with a ceiling light or downlights and you've got bright light when you need it and a softer feel at night.
Can I put wall lights in a bathroom?
Yes, as long as they carry the right IP rating for the spot. IP44 is the usual minimum near a vanity. Have a look at our bathroom lighting for fittings rated for wet areas.
How far apart should hallway wall lights be?
Roughly every 2 to 3 m keeps the light even without dark patches, starting about 1 m in from each end of the hall.
Lighting the outside too? See our outdoor wall lights. Still deciding? Our team is a phone call away on 02 4040 0599, or drop into the showroom in Thornton and see them switched on.
