AC Fans
AC fans are the reliable, budget friendly option. They run on a traditional motor, usually controlled by a wall controller, and suit bedrooms, rentals and spaces where you just want a fan that works. Choose from Ventair, Hunter Pacific, Eglo, Martec, Fanco and Mercator.
AC or DC?
- AC fansCost less to buy and pair with a simple wall speed controller.
- DC fansQuieter, cheaper to run and have more speeds, but cost more up front.
- Our rule of thumbFor a bedroom you sleep in every night, DC is usually worth it. For a garage, rumpus room or rental, AC is often all you need.
- Remote optionMany AC fans can be fitted with a remote. Check the listing.
Questions we get asked
Are AC ceiling fans noisy?
Quality AC fans are quiet at low and medium speeds. You'll notice a little more motor hum than a DC fan on the lowest setting.
Can a new AC fan use my existing wall controller?
Often, yes, if the controller is in good working order. Your electrician will confirm when they install the new fan.
What size AC fan do I need?
The same sizing applies to any fan: around 48 inch for bedrooms, 52 inch for most living rooms and larger for open plan spaces.
