Extension Rods
On a high or raked ceiling, a fan mounted close to the ceiling moves air where nobody feels it. An extension rod (or downrod) brings the blades down to where you sit. We stock rods to suit Fanco, Calibo, Eglo, ThreeSixty, Hunter Pacific and Martec fans, in lengths and finishes to match.
Getting the length right
- The targetAim for the blades to sit about 2.4 to 2.7 m above the floor.
- The sumCeiling height, minus about 2.5 m, minus the fan's own height, equals the rod length you need.
- Match the fanRods are brand and range specific, so check the fan it suits.
- Raked ceilingsCheck the fan's maximum ceiling angle. Some need an angled mounting kit.
Questions we get asked
Do I need an extension rod?
If your ceiling is higher than about 2.7 m, usually yes. On standard 2.4 m ceilings, the rod that comes with the fan is enough.
Can I cut an extension rod to length?
We don't recommend it. Rods are made to length with set drill holes for safe mounting.
Will a rod from another brand fit my fan?
Usually not. Diameter, thread and wiring differ between brands, so buy the rod made for your fan.
