Outdoor
Outdoor lights work harder than anything inside your home. Rain, salt air, harsh sun and summer storms all take their toll, so we pick our range for how well it lasts as much as how it looks. You'll find wall lights, garden and path lights, sensor and security lights, solar and alfresco fittings from Havit, Nordlux, Telbix, Calibo and Martec.
Choosing outdoor lights that last
- IP ratingIP44 suits covered areas like a porch or alfresco. Exposed walls and gardens need IP65 or higher, and in-ground lights need IP67.
- Near the coastChoose 316 marine grade stainless steel, solid brass or quality powder coated aluminium to resist rust and pitting.
- Low voltage garden lighting12V systems are safer around soil and water, and easy to extend later.
- Sensor lightsA sensor light on the driveway or side path saves power and adds security.
Questions we get asked
What IP rating do I need for outdoor lights?
Under a roof or eave, IP44 is the usual minimum. Anywhere rain hits directly, go IP65 or higher. Lights set into the ground or near water need IP67 or IP68.
Do outdoor lights need an electrician?
Mains powered outdoor lights do. Solar lights and plug-in 12V garden kits are the DIY friendly options.
What colour light is best outside?
Warm white, around 3000K, makes homes and gardens look inviting. Save cooler light for security and work areas.
