12V Garden
Low voltage 12V lighting is the professional's choice for gardens. It's safer around soil and water, the cable can run shallow through garden beds, and the fittings are small enough to tuck between plants. Our range includes spike lights, tree lights and path lights from Havit, CLA, Oriel and Domus, in solid brass, copper and 316 stainless steel.
Planning a 12V system
- Pick the momentsLight two or three features well, such as a tree, a path and a wall, rather than dotting lights everywhere.
- Size the driverAdd up the wattage of every light and choose a driver with around 20% spare capacity.
- Choose the metalSolid brass and copper age beautifully. 316 stainless suits homes near the coast.
- Tri-colour fittingsMany Havit spikes switch between warm and natural white, so you can fine tune once installed.
Questions we get asked
Is 12V garden lighting better than 240V?
For most gardens, yes. It's safer, easier to move as plants grow, and the fittings are smaller. 240V suits larger fittings like bollards on long runs.
Do 12V garden lights need an electrician?
The driver plugs into or is wired to a weatherproof outdoor power point, which needs a licensed electrician. Low voltage cable runs are simpler and cheaper to lay.
How many garden lights can one driver run?
It depends on the driver's wattage. A 60W driver runs ten 5W spike lights with room to spare.
