Outdoor Wall Lights
First impressions start at the front door. A pair of well chosen outdoor wall lights makes a house look welcoming, helps visitors find their way in and keeps the porch safe after dark. Our range covers up/down lights, lanterns, sensor lights and coastal rated fittings from Calibo, Telbix, Havit, SAL and Nordlux.
Sizing and placement
- Beside the front doorMount the lights so their centre sits around 1.7 m from the ground. From the street, a fitting about a quarter of the door's height looks in proportion.
- Up/down lightsThese wash the wall in both directions and suit modern facades and alfresco walls.
- ExposureCovered porches suit IP44. Exposed walls need IP65 or higher.
- Near the beachChoose 316 stainless steel or marine grade finishes so they stay looking good.
Questions we get asked
Should outdoor wall lights be warm or cool white?
Warm white, around 3000K, flatters brick, timber and render and feels welcoming. Keep cool white for security lighting.
Can I get an outdoor wall light with a sensor?
Yes. Sensor wall lights switch on when someone approaches, which is ideal for side paths and garages. Some also have a dusk to dawn mode.
Which outdoor lights hold up near the beach?
Look for 316 marine grade stainless steel, solid brass or copper, or quality powder coated aluminium. A rinse with fresh water every now and then keeps salt from building up.
